Starting Out Slowly

Are there things you know you should do but don't? My "thing" has been food storage. I do the grocery shopping and budget/plan my trips down to the penny. Seeing how low I can get the cost is kind of like a game for me. I think this is why I haven't started my food storage-- I don't want to spend money on extra items.
I swear the last few weeks everything has been screaming at me to start our 3 month supply...lets hope this isn't a sign from heaven saying something is going to happen down the road.

I read this awesome article in this month's ensign Two Cans of Corn: Home Storage for Newlyweds It tells the story of a young couple who started buying just a couple extra items each grocery trip. After a while, their two cans of corn turned into a supply that saved them financially when different emergencies came up.
This is the beginning of our food storage :)
(I went shopping today)

Pathetic I know, but you have to start somewhere! On top of these items, I bought a 720 count box of wipes at Sam's Club. I almost choked when I saw the cost of diapers so I'm glad we're stocking up on some essentials now.
Want to know the weird thing? I spent less this trip than I did two weeks ago--even with the extra items!

Good for you...diapers are so expensive. Troy was so great he would always get a bag of them starting from when I knew I was pregnant....so by the time the baby came we had a ton of diapers.

I suggest buying a lot of size 2 they seem to wear those the longest.

Good job Megan! Your right... you have to start somewhere! If you watch the prices, certain items will go on sale in rotations... so just watch and catch them at their lowest prices.

If you really want to take your savings game up a notch, go read some couponing blogs and school up on how to use coupons with sales... that is a GREAT way to get stocked up and spend less! (even on diapers haha)
