We were scheduled to be induced at 5 AM Friday morning. At 4 AM the hospital called, asking us to stay home and call back at nine. There had been a rush of women and the labor and delivery floor was full.
It was disappointing, but so great to get some more sleep! 9 AM came and we were told the same thing: call back, but this time at 2 PM. I was getting antsy! We had a lazy morning and did some last minute shopping. Finally it was 2 PM and I assumed we would be told, once again, to call back later. But no! We were told to come on in! It was finally time!
It was 3:30 PM by the time we were settled in our room. My nurse, Barbara, was actually the nurse who delivered Charlie's and I was thrilled to see her. She was great and I absolutely adored her.
The doctor came and I was already dilated to a 5. Maybe all that shopping and walking around the day before helped? He broke my water and Joey's heart rate went way down. After a few minutes of switching sides it went back up.
My nurse suggested that I get my epidural because the technician was leaving and it was possible my labor was going to go fast and I might miss my chance. At that point, I wasn't even uncomfortable so I wanted to wait a little bit. Then the thought of losing the option scared me and I asked to get it before she left. I'm so glad I did...
Joey's heart rate had been going up and down so the nurses were paying close attention to us. Unfortunately Barbara's shift was over so she had to leave. I was so sad to see her go!
At 7:30 my mom and Charlie came to bring Tony some dinner. They were sitting at the table talking when Joey's heart rate dropped again and the nurse told me I needed to start pushing right away. My mom couldn't get Charlie out of the room before the pushing began--it happened so fast! Five minutes later and Joey was born! At 7 lbs and 18 inches he was perfect. The nurses delivered him and did such a wonderful job! I was thanking them over and over. My doctor arrived right after the birth. There was no way he could have made it in time!
Tony, Charlie and mom watched Joey get cleaned up. Charlie was very concerned over all the crying and just stared at Joey. It was neat to watch as he made the connection that this was the "baby Joey" he had been hearing about.
Welcome to our family Joseph Garrett Gibson!

Ice Cream Cone
Yesterday Charlie and I had ice cream cones in the backyard. I finished mine in about five minutes but Charlie savored his for almost half an hour. He carried it everywhere. It was a huge drippy mess, but he loved every second!

Big Boy Room
Joey's not the only one who got a new room... Charlie moved into his "big boy room" a few months ago and loves it. We tried getting all the room & bed adjustments settled long before Joey got here. I'm so glad we did.
Will these pictures trick you into thinking his room is always clean? :)
The good thing about his toy/book shelf is that it makes picking up really quick. Unfortunately, it makes dumping everything out even quicker!
Charlie is doing great in his toddler bed. He still struggles sometimes but is starting to realize if he isn't tired at nap time, he can get up and play until he's tired and then climb into bed. It's great!
Can you believe he's going to be 20 months in two weeks?
Joey's Room
Last night we finished Joey's room for FHE.
We organized and put away clothes, hung the curtains...It's finally done and the door isn't blocking the mess of baby stuff everywhere, but is open. It feels like part of our house now and that we really are having a baby next week.

Our Weekend.
We had a pretty good weekend. Friday we tested out a restaurant called The Wooden Spoon. It's run by Mennonites and the food is (supposedly) all homemade. We heard it's always a long wait so we hurried to get there 15 minutes after it opened and still waited for 30 + minutes for a table, guess that means it's good? Next time we need to get there before they open! The food was excellent but the dessert was incredible. I got a slice of coconut pie and Tony had a slice of this chocolate chip creme filled cake. Lucky for me, Charlie favored the chocolate and ended up not wanting any of my pie :) My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
Saturday we sweated outside and did some yard work. When we came inside we sweated some more because our air conditioning broke. Thank goodness Tony had the sense to check the vents and called a company for help. Unfortunately the charge for an on-call guy to come out was almost double the cost it would have been during the week. I think we would have paid anything to have it fixed that day! The big fans we had blowing felt more like high-powered humidifiers than anything else. It was HOT and HUMID. However, it ended up being a really fun night! We filled up the kiddie pool, picked up some ice cream cones and had a picnic in the backyard while we waited for the house to cool off.
Only one more weekend before Joey is here!

Full Term
Now that I'm 37 1/2 weeks, I'm officially full term! It has gone by quick, however I sure felt full-term this morning as I ran after (more like waddled after) a hysterically laughing Charlie through 3 aisles at Target this morning.
At my last doctor's appointment I was dilated to a 2...almost there :)
My top 3 favorite foods lately have been
1. cold cereal--frosted mini wheats/cinnamon life
2. McDonald's apple and cherry pies.
3. raw oats. I guess I've turned part horse because I can scarf down handfuls of oats at a time. I usually mix them in yogurt because I feel funny eating them with a spoon.
My mom is coming out in a couple weeks (hopefully with my dad) and then Tony's mom will be out after that. We're so thrilled they'll be here. I loved having both moms out after Charlie was born. I don't know how I would have survived without them! They were such a huge help.
The day before Charlie was born my mom and I were out shopping. She bought me a new pair of pajamas to wear in the hospital, saying it would be nice having something soft and new to wear in the hospital. Like all mom advice, she was right and I loved having something pretty and new to wear. I decided this is a tradition for every baby and bought myself a new pair last week (and was even dorky and took a picture of them. Of course you want to know what my pajamas look like :)
Now that I have my pajamas we're all set :) kidding, kidding...
I feel like Arkansas is our own little married world since we've lived here pretty much ever since we got married (except for one semester). It's exciting to have family come out to what we know as home. Hopefully the humidity doesn't kill our visitors!
I have curtains to hang, wooden letters to paint, clothes to organize, some odd jobs around the house to finish and then we start the waiting game.
2 1/2 more weeks to go!

Memorial Day Weekend
This past weekend was low-key. Tony was sick (seriously, what has been going on at our house?!)So we watched a lot of LOST (on season 4 now) but on Monday we were able to spend a lot of time outside. It was GREAT to get out of the house!
After playing at the park we went to the splash park for the first time. Charlie and Tony ran around together and had a good time. I don't think Charlie knew what to think of water splashing everywhere. He loved watching other kids run around and being with daddy, but he was a little unsure.
We need to go back since it's getting hotter by the second here in Arkansas. It was warm but windy so the boys got chilly quick.
Hope everyone had a great memorial day weekend!
