Joy School Christmas Party

 Charlie the shepherd

This morning we had joy school at our house.  The first part was school and the last hour was our Christmas party with all the moms.  The kids were so excited!

 rehearsing the nativity
Bri- wiseman, Clara- angel, Danny- Joseph, Ellie- Mary, Charlie- shepherd

I used our kid nativity (thanks, Teri!) and told the story of Christ's birth.  We were going to put on the nativity for the moms! We got in costume and rehearsed.  I have to say I was really nervous about this!  I was imagining Charlie not wanting to participate, the girls fighting over Mary, etc, but it went so well.  Charlie was so excited to have his own part in the nativity.  It definitely helped that he got to carry his sheep with him the entire time.  In fact all the kids did great.  They took it very seriously and it was cute to watch.

We painted popsicle stick ornaments, for mom & dad Christmas gifts, and decorated a big tree.  After some free play and wrapping our gifts, it was time for the moms to arrive!  Each mom would be bringing an activity to do at the party.

We played a few games while waiting for all the moms to arrive.

Finally it was time for the show!

reminding everyone where they're supposed to go

I read the nativity story while the kids went to their spots.

"keeping watch over his flock by night"

It went so well.  We have talked about Christ's birth, as a family, but I think this helped Charlie understand even more.  Ah...I'm so relieved it went well!

Joy school has been a positive experience for Charlie.  Sure, it's kinda a pain when it's my turn to teach, but he has learned a lot.  He loves his friends and having something that is just for him.   This first "semester" has been really great!  We have a great group of kiddos:

Ellie
  Danny
Clara
  Bri

I'm glad that he has a whole 2 1/2 years before he goes to kindergarten!

Being a "naked, good guy, shepherd"

I call him my "precious angel" and he likes to correct me, "mom, not precious-- good guy."
Charlie will always be my precious angel.

Totally random thoughts for you.... The other night I had a dream I was hosting Joy School in your absence and after receiving quite detailed instructions from all the other mothers I was stressed out. One specific instruction was that before I came in the morning I had to get everyone their specific drink of choice....and one Mom had requested something that could only be picked up at a gas station 10 miles out of the way. Rude!! I tried to get out of it but they said those are the rules and that's how we do it. Luckily I woke up before I had to go find all their special drinks. I was still stressed out though. I don't envy you!

Oh and in real life....the other day driving back from STL Addison wanted to play "Charlie's family" so she cast us in roles. I was you, she was Charlie, Jonas was Joey, and Daddy was "Charlie's Daddy". Mostly it just involved her asking me for a snack and then after giving it to her she'd say "Thank you Megan!" and I had to say "You're welcome Charlie"....if I didn't she'd correct me. It was a rather fun game and it provided at least 15 minutes of peace to our drive. Which is saying a LOT.

Ahhhh, that's the end of my randomness for you. Good blog post by the way! :D

I LOVE that picture of all the kids doing the nativity scene. So cute. And that Charlie sure is a cutie. You better watch out when he gets older!
