Cake Decorating

After last summer, I knew that I needed to find some hobbies if I wanted to stay productive, happy and positive. It's hard staying home alone! I am hoping to find a job but until then, I don't want to be sitting around the house watching television. That just gets depressing and I am not doing that.
So what did I decide to learn?
Cake Decorating
Tony and I spent probably an hour and a half roaming Hobby Lobby. I got this book...Wilton Cake Decorating Course 1
Wilton has four course books that cover every kind of cake you could ever want to make. Wilton also has kits that go hand in hand with the course books, so I have the supplies that are required for the different lessons. Today I made some frosting and decided to try out a few of the designs on parchment paper. It's harder than I thought! I thought I could figure everything out by just looking at the examples pictures...after trying to figure it out on my own, I started reading the instructions and had a lot more luck :) I think that's the hardest thing about learning something new. I never want to start at the beginning--I want to be an expert on my first try.
Here are a few snapshots that I took
I love polka dots and I love Tony...my two favorite things :)
Practicing little stars...

And my headless clown...I don't know how to make heads but I attempted to make a body. I think it turned out pretty cute. By this point my frosting was getting warm and so it wasn't as stiff as it could be but I still like it!

Tomorrow I may try decorating an actual cake or just practice more designs.
I'm excited to have something new to do!

Whoa!!! That's super cute and looks like fun! I tried making a rose with frosting the first time and thought I should be an expert. Learning something new is always so humbling! :) I hope you're having a wonderful time in your new home!

You are so creative:) that sounds really fun to do. My sister in law makes cakes for weddings and birthdays and all sorts of things. And she just taught herself. Maybe it will be your new thing.
